Lia Miller, Cónsul General U.S. Consulate General Barcelona, a career Foreign Service Officer, has worked extensively on issues across the Middle East, North Africa, Eastern Europe, and Latin America.

In both her professional and volunteer capacities, she has demonstrated leadership and innovation in public diplomacy, communications and public outreach,  humanitarian relief, democratic institution building and reform, social inclusion,  equity, and diversity, among other areas.

Lia just concluded an assignment  working in an interagency capacity as a Senior Advisor for Women, Peace and Security at the U.S. Naval War College and will next serve as the Consul General at the U.S. consulate in Barcelona, Spain from Summer 2024. She has also held assignments in the Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs, the Operations Center, the Bureau of Global Public Affairs, the Office of Middle East Transitions, the Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs, and at the U.S. Embassies in Armenia, Bolivia, Tunisia, Nicaragua, and Oman for the U.S. Department of State.

Lia earned a Bachelor of Science with honors, with double majors, in Social Work and African American studies, and two Masters from the Maxwell School at Syracuse University: one in Public Administration and one in International Relations.

Lia also holds a Masters of Science in Social Work from Columbia University and a Masters of National Security and Strategic Studies from the U.S. Naval War College. She has studied Spanish, Arabic, Armenian, French and Portuguese.
